  • (Because) some states have more people

Give any one of these answers at your interview.

Some states have more representatives because they have more people. Seats are based on each state’s population.

What it means

House seats are divided by population, counted in the census every 10 years. States that grow can gain seats; states that shrink can lose them.

Say “because of the state’s population” or “because they have more people.”

Memory tip: More people = more representatives.
