Question 24 of 128 American Government

How many voting members are in the House of Representatives?

Answers USCIS accepts

  • Four hundred thirty-five (435)

Give any one of these answers at your interview.

There are four hundred thirty-five (435) voting members in the House of Representatives.

What it means

The 435 seats are divided among the states by population, so big states like California have many representatives and small states have at least one.

Washington, D.C. and the territories have delegates who cannot vote on final passage of laws, so they are not counted in the 435.

Memory tip: House = 435 (think “4-3-5”).
