It is important for all men age 18 through 25 to register for the Selective Service. Name one reason why.

Answers USCIS accepts

  • Required by law
  • Civic duty
  • Makes the draft fair, if needed

Give any one of these answers at your interview.

Men age 18 through 25 must register for the Selective Service because it is required by law, it is a civic duty, and it makes the draft fair if needed.

What it means

The Selective Service keeps a list of men who could be called up if the country ever needs a military draft. There is no draft today, but registration is still the law.

Any one reason is enough. “Required by law” is the simplest.

Memory tip: Selective Service = required by law.
